An Instagram page I’d created back in 2018, as a little side-project inspired by my dissertation at University of the Arts London, on museum-visitor relationships and social network sites & my semester at Sotheby’s Institute of Art. It’s a page dedicated to and focused on the intersection between art and social media.

sociArtists series : David Shrigley
British artist and illustrator David Shrigley’s text-based, satirical, humourous and colourful works tick all the boxes when it comes to compatibility with and popularity on social media, particularly Instagram. Shrigley isn’t one of the most active artists on social media himself, and he started making this kind of work way before MySpace, let alone Instagram. Yet his choice of words, subjects and the way in which he puts them together and decontextualises them in his drawings, makes him one of the most celebrated #sociArtists of the age of Instagram. 🌀💥
We can’t escape climate change, especially if it’s brought right in front us in the form of immense blocks of ice 🌪 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This is exactly what Danish-Icelandic artist Olafur Eliasson did with the ‘Ice Watch’ project, by bringing ice blocks, each weighing between 1.5 and 5 tonnes, from the Nuuk Kangerlua fjord in Greenland and installed them outside Tate Modern and Bloomberg’s European Headquarters with geologist Minik Rosing.
This thought-provoking, participatory project aims to raise awareness on the catastrophic threat of global warming, sea level rise and its consequences for the environment 🌍
